Tesla’s highlight event of 2024, dubbed “We, Robot,” has just gone live. Watch as Tesla expounds on its autonomy-linked efforts, unveils the much-anticipated Cybercab – and perhaps even a Cybervan – and discloses additional details regarding its cheaper, sub-$30,000 Model 2 and the humanoid Optimus robot.

This Is What We Know So Far

Constituting the pinnacle of Tesla’s autonomy-related ambitions, the Cybercab is expected to be based on a new platform that Tesla has been designing for its cheaper, sub-$30,000 EV, dubbed the Model 2.

As per the reports so far, the Cybercab will feature butterfly-wing doors, just two seats, a single, central screen featuring a minimalist UI, and might not come with a dedicated steering wheel or pedals.On the hardware front, the vehicle will come equipped with Tesla’s successor to the HW3 and HW4 iterations: the AI5, with around 10x the capability of the HW4. Also, some have analyzed the camouflaged robotaxi picture to suggest that the AI5 might even sport a LiDAR.

Elon Musk believes that Tesla’s FSD will be able to achieve the robotaxi-enabling autonomous capabilities by “next year.” However, Ming-Chi Kuo, one of the most prominent Apple analysts, recently leveraged his own channel checks to confirm that the Cybercab will only be able to enter into mass production in the first quarter of 2027.

However, Tesla will be able to rollout its robotaxi service even without a dedicated Cybercab. To do so, the EV giant will likely unveil a dedicated mobility app that will allow existing Tesla owners to start offering “supervised” ride-sharing services.

Elsewhere, the so-called Cybervan is likely to either feature a family-centric interior, replete with screens and gaming controllers on the back of seats, or a commercial van with a minimalist interior.

We might also get a teaser about Tesla’s upcoming Model 2. Of course, the EV giant is likely to focus a major part of the event on its FSD software. Finally, we might receive further updates vis-a-vis Tesla’s humanoid Optimus robot.
